Tell me about Raliegh

  Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and the seat of Wake County. The city was named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who sponsored a settlement on Roanoke Island in 1587 ¹. The area encompassing present-day Raleigh had a handful of sparse colonial settlements as early as the 1760s ⁷. The site of Raleigh was chosen in 1788 as a central location for the state government, after the American Revolution and the move of the capital westward from the coast. The city was incorporated in 1792 and laid out in a grid pattern with the State Capitol in the center ¹. Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle, a major urban area with Chapel Hill and Durham. With the establishment of the Research Triangle Park between Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina, the city experienced further population growth in the 1960s, when new arrivals moved to take advantage of employment opportunities at the newly built high-tech companies ⁷.
